Q. What is Pounce?

A. Pounce is a multi-player speed card game. There are many common names for this game, including Pounce, Nertz, Hell, Peanuts, and Points are awarded based on the number of cards played into the center field, and for being the first player to empty his/her

Pounce pile. The actual mechanics of gameplay are similar to Solitaire, and Pounce is sometimes described as a form of multi-player Solitaire.

Q. Where can I learn more about Pounce in general?

A. There are many resources on the web, and there is even a National Nertz Association. Their website is http://www.playnertz.com.

Q. On what devices is the Pounce app available?

A. Currently it is available on the following devices:

  • The 2nd generation and later iPod Touch.
  • The iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4.
  • The iPad. You must be running at least version 3.0 of the iPhone OS on iPod or iPhone devices, though it is strongly recommended that you upgrade to at least 4.0 if you wish to play multi-player games using bluetooth networking.

Q. How do I startup a multi-player game?

A. The following procedure describes how to start a multi-player game:

  1. You must first decide which device will host the game. On that device, first go to the Options screen, and select gameplay options.
  2. Select “Host Multi-Player Game” on the main menu. You can enter you name at the top of the hosting screen (if youdon’t enter anything, your device’s name is used).
  3. Next, on all other devices, select “Join Multi-Player Game”.
  4. On the join screen, enter your name if you wish, and then wait for the host’s name to appear. When it does, just tap the name, and you’ll be connected to the host.
  5. On the host, wait for all players’ names to appear. Select each player to be included in the game by tapping on their names. Then tap `Accept’ in the upper right of the screen.
  6. Next, add any computer players you want to include in the game, and set their playing speeds.
  7. When you are ready, tap “Start” to begin the game. Please be patient when starting a multi-player game, as it can take some time for devices to recognize each other using bluetooth networking.

Q. I am having trouble forming a multi-player game. Sometimes the host and other players devices don’t recognize each other. Also, sometimes the host seems to disconnect a player before the game can be started.

A. Unfortunately, bluetooth networking can sometimes be a bit flaky. If you encounter problems like this,  there are a few things you can try:

  1. Exit to the main menu on  all devices, then try again.
  2. If that doesn’t work, try exiting the application entirely on all devices, and try again.
  3. If that still doesn’t work, try rebooting all devices and try again.
  4. Avoid selecting “Host Multi-Player Game” on multiple devices. Decide who will host the game ahead of time. Trying to have multiple hosts can sometimes cause devices to take a long time to recognize each other. In our experience with bluetooth network on the iPod and iPhone, the above steps have always resolved any issues. But if you still are having trouble, please feel free to contact us at .

Also, note that it is a good idea to choose the fastest available device for the host, in order to ensure best performance. If one of your devices is an iPhone 3GS, choose it as the host. If not, choose an iPod Touch as the host.

Q. How do I resume a paused multi-player game?

A. In a multi-player game, any player can call timeout, and this pauses the game for all players. For play to resume, all players must select resume in the timeout screen.

Q. When I am stuck during a multi-player game, my iPod/iPhone will auto-sleep after a while, and this causes the game to pause for all players. What gives?

A. Multi-player games will automatically pause when any player’s app is interrupted. For example, if a player receives a phone call during a multi-player game, the game will automatically pause while that player deals with the incoming call. There are many ways an app can be interrupted, and auto-sleep is one such way. Unfortunately, there is not necessarily a way for an app to recognize the cause of the interruption. If this behaviour is a problem, we suggest you turn off Auto-Lock in your iPod/iPhone General settings
